Overview

Looking for five star service, wild life and the wonders and beauty of nature Habarana is definitely the place to be. Some of the best hotels in Sri Lanka are situated  right here and the greenery of the countryside and not to mention the abundance of wildlife has made Habarana a hot spot for many tourists from all over the world.  It is also close to the rock fortress Sigirya and the ancient kingdoms of Anuradhapura and Polanaruwa which make Habarana the pit stop to these places and due to this reason many luxurious hotels have sprung up in this area.

Besides enjoying five star extravagances in the many eco friendly hotels in the area, Habarana is also known for the abundance of elephants all around the area. The Habarana National Park has plenty of these majestic creatures that roam freely in the park among many other wild creatures. Habarana National Park offers Sri Lankan wild life at its best. In addition to the elephants you can find monkeys, deer and plenty of bird watching sites. Minneriya water reservoir is also another famous spot where wild elephants come to bathe and quench their thirst. Habarana is also famous for its elephant back rides where you can also go on elephant back right into thick jungle. Habarana is in close proximity to two world heritage sites which are the ancient kingdoms of Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa.  In addition it is also close to the “wonder of the world” Sigiriya and the Dambulla rock temple. Habarana is the best place to stay for those who are history buffs and wild life enthusiasts.

Besides sightseeing history and searching for wild life the only other entertainment found in Habarana will depend highly on the hotel that you are staying at. The town of Habarana is very laid back and rustic and there are no shopping centers besides small shops selling basic provisions and little markets which is a typical facet of Sri Lankan village life. However its quietness and lack of modernity in its buildings are made up for in the many five star hotels that have developed in this area
