Overview

Looking for peace and tranquility in a stunning location, look no further than Adisham Bungalow where the mountains, cool climate and the wonders of nature will take your breath away. Originally built by Sir Thomas Villiers in a heavenly location encircled by virgin forests with views that stretch for miles of the highest mountains as well as the green sloping hills and valleys of the region. Built in the Tudor style and resembling every bit of a true Elizabethan mansion. Any visitor will be transported back in time when visiting.
The history of Adisham Bungalow is vibrant; Sir Thomas Villiers being an important figure at George Steuarts as well as politics building his dream home with a touch of nostalgia for his home country, no expense was spared in its construction and furnishings. The gardens were laid out in grand style with blossoms of roses and fruits.  If only walls could speak Adisham Bungalow would tell tales of great parties and influential important people that have stayed there over the great period when Britain was in control of Sri Lanka.  The grand staircase, fireplaces and the portraits give one a feeling of being transported back in time.
One of the main things to indulge in is the bird sanctuary. A visit there and you will come into contact with orange mini verts, green barbets, blue magpies, paradise fly catchers, hornbills, golden oreolles and many other species of birds that nestle there. The orchestra of birds makes it a wonderful experience every morning to take a walk down there.
A visit to Adisham is a different experience altogether. It is now a spiritual place for worship, peace and reflection. In the year 1961 the Roman Catholic Church took over Adisham and turned it into a monastery. It is not a hotel or any bungalow which provides hotel amusements. The rooms are large, airy and comfortable with some of the best views in Sri Lanka, the food is simple but tasty and one must come for the beauty and the peace rather for the commercial tourist aspect. It is a place where one can have a true spiritual experience.
