Overview

Hambantota is a coastal city in the South of the Island.  Hambantota has never really been the center of attention until the recent government came into power. The current government started developing Hambantota about 5 years ago and today supports some of the countries best infrastructure. Hambantota has been going through major developments which included a brand new seaport, air port and International sports venues at which the current cricket world cup too will play a few games. This has since recent made Hamabatota talked about quite a bit and tourists have been flocking to see what Hambantota looks like now, 5 years into development as this rapidly developing city changes everyday with new structures and roads being built.

Hambantota even though is not renowned for its beaches it does have miles and miles of completely untouched by man and unspoilt beaches. Dues to the lack of development for so long accommodation is limited but it is to change very soon as Hambantota will without a doubt be one of Sri Lanka’s major cities very soon with tourists both local and foreign.

The beaches however have not become prime swimming and diving destinations as the current is significantly stronger and is usually not encouraged by the local residents.

Sri Lanka is known to have some of Asia’s finest wildlife parks. Yala and Bundala both national parks are within very close proximity to Hambantota and being the major city in the area will very soon become the hub for all wildlife lovers.

Amongst the heavy economic development that Hambantota is undergoing new projects such as power and manufacturing has moved to Hambantota as the vast undeveloped area of land is perfect for the industries mentioned.

Hambantota is also within very close proximity to sacred places such as the Kataragama temple to which worshippers of all religions go to.  Also, villages such as Kirinda and Tissamaharama all are within a short drive from the city and are definitely worth a visit to explore.

Hambantota is a place like no other. It is seldom that one would come across is a city like it. Therefore more people who have been realizing this have been coming in to experience hambantota as it is now and have not been disappointed.
