Overview

Haputale is a town in the Badulla district of Sri lanka. This region supports a much cooler climate compared to the capital Colombo due to the high altitude of Haputhale which is about 1400 meters above sea level. Haputale has some of the most beautiful flora and fauna in the surrounding areas. The Haputale mountain range is definitely one of the most striking mountain ranges you would ever come across covered in lush greenery and in the cool climate it looks truly beautiful, for hikes, walks and wildlife it is the prefect setting.

There are also many places of interest for the visitor such the Horton plains national park where you would see hundreds of species of animals, some of Sri Lanka highest waterfalls such as Bamabarakanda and Diyaluma are all within close proximity to the main Haputale town. These are all huge tourists attractions and have always had a very high demand during the holiday seasons in sri lanka.

The Haputale gap is a location at which the view is nothing short of spectacular, either side of the gap is bordering the Horton plains national park and the other side of the gap borders the Nuwara eliya district and is beautiful.  A common activity that tourists love to do is take a hike or a walk in the hills where they would stop at the old tea factory, old mansions in the hills to be explored and the waterfalls from the bottom where the water crashes.

The Horton plains National Park is renowned to have some of the most majestic herds of the samba deer along with many other species such as fishing cats, European otters and the most amazing Sri Lanka Leopard are all available in the park.

Also, the world’s end which is a precipice which boasts a drop close to 3000 feet is within the park premises. Local tourists have been flocking to see this majestic view to the park for years. Haputale is still and always will be one of Sri Lankas finest attractions. It is often described as a wonder of nature.
