Overview
Nestled in the Poonagala hills, Lipton’s Seat is one of the best viewing points of Sri Lanka. Located at Dambetenna in the Haputale Mountain region, Lipton’s Seat was the look-out point for surveying the surrounding region of his tea plantations of Sir Thomas Lipton, the well known tea planter.
On a clear day, you can see as many five provinces of Sri Lanka from this viewing point and the dramatic sights are something that have to be experienced at least once in your life time.
Enjoy the surreal charm of nature and the dramatic appeal as you glance over the endless territory towards South, East and South West of Sri Lanka from this point.
Sir Thomas Johnstone Lipton, 1st Baronet, KCVO (10 May 1848-2 October 1931) was a Scotsman of Ulster-Scots parentage who was a self-made man, merchant, and yachtsman. He created the Lipton tea brand.
Lipton visited Sri Lanka in the 1890s and made business deals with James Taylor, the man who introduced tea plantations to Sri Lanka (Ceylon), with working people from India (Tamil people). Lipton’s company purchased tea from Sri Lanka and distributed it through Europe and the USA.
