Meditation in Sri Lanka

Calm your mind and feed your soul through meditation in Sri Lanka. There are many meditation centers   with stunning views in beautiful locations all over this paradise isle. If you are looking to practice meditation with the ambience of the ocean, there are beach meditation centers or if lush green fauna and flora is what you are looking for then there are numerous forest meditation centers where one can practice meditating with the sounds, sights and smells of tropical nature.

Sri Lanka is the perfect place to learn how to meditate and follow patience, simplicity, abandonment of pleasures and modesty. The largest amount of meditation centers and monasteries are found in the Western and Central parts of the country such as Kandy and Colombo. If you are not looking for a guru and are more individualist rather than a group orientated person then Sri Lanka can be a great place to learn the intricacies of successful meditation. The Sinhalese and Indian theory of meditation allows more individualism rather than the Chinese theory, however saying that one can learn the art for themselves with gentle guidance if needed.

One must remember to bring all personal items such as toiletries and other items and remember to wear modest clothing. Sri Lankan culture prides itself on being traditional and conservative and therefore one must respect that. Most of the meditation centers in Sri Lanka are not rich so therefore be prepared for total simplicity in food as well as lodging. Meat and eggs are not available, sometimes fish will be given but mostly the food is vegetarian and very simply cooked. It is sometimes advised to take vitamin supplements to retain nutrition. Accommodation facilities are also very menial as that humility and renunciation is the first step to practicing meditation.

However what lacks in accommodation and food will be made up in the rewards of meditation in absolute beautiful locations. Sri Lanka boasts of some picturesque locations where these meditation centers have sprung up and therefore appreciate and revel in the beauty of nature while you find inner peace and relaxation.
