Overview

Pasikudah and Kalkudah are two small towns which are based by the most pristine beach you will ever see. Completely out of touch with civilization for over thirty years due to the civil war it has been preserved like no other and is a complete example of how beautiful nature can be without human touch.  The towns are very small and are on either side of a peninsula, which then in turn develops into two separate bays on either side.

These bays boast some of the most beautiful waters and environment you will ever see.  The sand on both sides is white and the water is crystal clear and you can do some of the most wonderful diving and snorkeling here, as the visibility underwater is incomparable to anywhere in the island. Some of the most amazing coral reefs are based in these two beaches where you can get some rare coral which has some beautiful colours. There are also plenty of tropical fish that come near the reef.

Currently there are a few guesthouses situated off the beach towards inland to stay the night if required. But purely due to the lack of infrastructure tourist tend to stay in Polonnaruwa, which is a large city and has plenty of accommodation and comfort for any traveler.  It is also a huge cultural and heritage site and is only 45 minutes from the beaches of Pasikudah and Kalkudah.

Long ago prior to the war in Sri Lanka these two towns were apparently huge tourist destinations and obviously now over thirty years have gone by and people have forgotten how truly amazing this place is.  When you first enter the beach coming through war torn land and coconut estates by the hectares the feeling in truly unbelievable.  During season, which is not monsoon, the bay is as calm as a swimming pool with no one in it. You can walk for hundreds and meters into the bay with water only upto your waist and watch the fish swim between your feet. It is no wonder that people are very quickly discovering what an amazing place this is
